ECUMENISM: WORLD CHURCH COUNCIL, "MAY GOVERNMENTS SUPPORT THE UN PEACE-BUILDING COMMITTEE"

Today, the Churches that are members of the World Church Council (Wcc), an ecumenical body that gathers 348 Protestant, Orthodox and Anglican churches on behalf of 560 million Christians, are asking the member states to support the work of the UN Peace-building Committee, a committee for the prevention of conflicts, for peace-building and reconciliation after conflicts. The Committee was established in December 2005, and a fund associated with such Committee was launched last October. The World Church Council asks the Governments to "encourage and support the efforts made by the Committee" and to allocate "moral, materials and human resources" to help it. The Council also mentions the need to "acknowledge the role and contribution of the Churches and the peace-building agencies in general".
