The relationships "of religion teaching in Europe with evangelization and the pastoral; with the multireligious and pluralist society; with the current cultural atmosphere, unfavourable to religion but which, at the same time, lets us notice a new interest in religious facts": those are "the most important knots we shall try to undo during our meeting". Those words were spoken to SIR by Msgr. Aldo Giordano, secretary general of CCEE (Council of the European Bishops’ Conferences), who is in Rome for the Symposium on the teaching of religion in the schools of the Continent. The Symposium opened yesterday afternoon and is lasting until tomorrow. The meeting is taking place at the end of a research on the matter, started by CCEE in 2005. In particular, such research was promoted by IRC (Catholic religion teaching) service of the Italian Bishops’ Conference. At the end of the works, went on Msgr. Giordano, "a final document will be approved by the delegates of the Churches of Europe. Such document will be meant for bishops’ conferences and maybe also for the national civil and European institutions, to point out the importance of religion teaching, which is something to be promoted. And its value should be increased". (To be continued)
