BENEDICT XVI: TO THE NEW CARDINALS; "FOR CHRIST, WE ARE ALL BROTHERS"

Christ is "the only Lord, before Whom we are all brothers. The whole hierarchy of the Church, every charisma and every ministry, everything and everyone are at the service of His Lordship". It was said yesterday morning by Benedict XVI, on the day of Christ the King, as he celebrated Holy Mass in the Vatican Basilica with the 23 new cardinals that he appointed on November 24th. It is in the Cross, noticed the Pope, that "Christ manifests His singular royalty", actually we can say that "Jesus reveals His own glory by staying up there, on the Cross, as an immolated Lamb". According to the Holy Father, "the scene of the Crucifixion, in the four Gospels, is the moment of truth, in which the ‘veil of the Temple’ is ripped open and the Holiest of the Holy appears". So, "it is in Christ Crucified that occurs the greatest revelation in the world, because God is love, and Jesus’ death on the Cross is the greatest deed of love in history". Then, before giving the new members of the Holy College the cardinal’s ring, which portrays the Crucifixion, Benedict XVI said: "Dear brothers and new cardinals, this will always be for you an invitation to remember which King you are the servants of, on which throne He has been raised to, and how He has been faithful through to the end to defeat sin and death with the force of the divine mercy".
