SIR EUROPA: THE RUN-UP TO THE YEAR OF INTERCULTURAL DIALOGUE. "GLOBALISATION BOOSTS INTERACTION OF CULTURES, RELIGIONS, ETHNIC GROUPS"

” “"The joint effects of the extension of the EU, the intensification of the migratory and trade flows with the rest of the world, education, leisure time and globalisation have boosted the interaction of cultures, religions and beliefs, ethnic groups and languages". This is the realisation that drove the EU institutions to finish their preparations for the media launch of 2008 as the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue. The event will take place in Brussels on December 4th: Jan Figel’, MEP, is coordinating the plans and initiatives for the next twelve months. "In such a scenario – one can read at: http://www.interculturaldialogue2008.eu/, under completion – and from the perspective of a multicultural EU, the development of intercultural skills and the promotion of intercultural dialogue are essential". Next week, the EU agenda will cover, as well as the first Forum on Nuclear Energy (Bratislava, 26-27 November), a parliamentary session (28-29 November), the EU-China summit (28 November) and the summit between the 27 EU member states and India (30 November). The Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Zapatero has been invited to the parliamentary assembly to give a speech on the future of the EU.” “
