SIR EUROPA: COMECE, THE PLENARY MEETING ENDING IN BRUSSELS TODAY

The "three dialogues" – with reason, with religions, starting from Islam, and with the European institutions – singled out by mgr. Adrianus van Luyn, bishop of Rotterdam and president of Comece (Commission of the EU Bishops Conferences), have been the focus of the three days’ plenary meeting of such Commission, which is ending in Brussels today. "Dialogue – recalled mgr. Van Luyn – is the expression of the choice made by the Church to stay with love within the history and the life of the world, especially of Europe. The purpose of dialogue is the truth, not the truth that is dictated by the physical and natural science, but the truth of the Revelation that Europe is now called to rediscover in order not to lose its identity and not to fail its role of bearing peace and hope in the world. This is not the time to give up to scepticism and pessimism: the realism of the Christian faith must become a message of confidence and commitment, because Europe, under its rough exterior, is begging for someone to help it think and work in a big way”.
