SIR EUROPA: MIGRATION AND HEALTH PROTECTION. COE CONFERENCE IN BRATISLAVA

"Finding solutions to face the challenges that migration and the other forms of mobility throw at the national health systems". This is the task entrusted to the eight Conference of the European Health Ministers, opened in Bratislava this morning as part of the program of the Slovakian presidency of the Council of Europe. The meeting, named "Moving people: a challenge for human rights and health systems", will last until tomorrow and gathers the health ministers of the 47 member states of the CoE. "In particular – explain the promoters –, the participants will review the development of migration and health models in Europe and will reflect on the relations between migration – from a social, ethical and human-rights perspective – and the planning, implementation of and accessibility to the health system". The opening reports will be given by Terry Davis, secretary general of the Coe, and by Robert Fico, Slovakian Prime Minister; these will be followed by reports from doctors and researchers. At the end of the Conference, "the Bratislava Declaration on migration, health and human rights will be adopted". Also in Bratislava, the Slovakian Government has set up an exhibition on drug addiction, that gives the family a leading role in the area of prevention.
