"Exhaustion of the planet’s resources, quick thawing of glaciers, rise in greenhouse gas emissions, rise in natural catastrophes and excessive CO2 emissions. These are some of the alerts that urge us to have a moral jolt in favour of the earth". It was written by mgr. Fernando Filoni, locum for general affairs of the secretariat of state, in a message that was sent on behalf of Pope Benedict XVI to the about 4 thousand participants in the Social Weeks of France. The meeting ended in Paris yesterday after reflecting four days on environmental challenges. The title of the French meeting was: "Living differently for a lasting and sympathetic living". The Holy Father writes mgr. Filoni "appreciates" the fact Christians call "not just the leaders of the countries but all social players and all citizens" to "become aware" of their responsibility for the environmental issues in order "to leave s really inhabitable planet to the future generations".
