(from our correspondent) The trade of Moroccan women that are forced to become prostitutes in the Gulf countries or deceived by false employment agreements. The children who in Tangier hide under lorries or containers in the attempt to migrate; the many sub-Saharan Africans who die in obscurity during their long walks through the desert or at sea. All of these are new forms of slavery which are well known to mgr. Vincent Landel, bishop of Rabat (Morocco), a French citizen, at the head of a small community of 40,000 Christians in an entirely Muslim country. He spoke about that with SIR, giving a preview of some contents of the speech he will give on Saturday at the workshop on "Slavery and new slavery" in progress until November 18th in Cape Coast, the Ghana, on the initiative of the Council of European Bishops Conferences (Ccce) and the Symposium of the African and Madagascan Bishops Conferences (Secam). For instance, the prostitution of Moroccan women in the Gulf countries "is increasing very quickly says the bishop of Rabat -, it is becoming the ‘top’. In those countries, they do not ask for a prostitute, but for a Moroccan woman, at any price. How may young women have been deceived by such false agreements".
