SIR EUROPE: THE FRENCH SOCIAL WEEKS ON THE SUBJECT OF LASTING AND SOLIDARITY DEVELOPMENT ARE STATING IN PARIS

” “"Living in a different way, for a lasting and solidarity development". It is the subject chosen by the French Social Weeks this year, which are taking place in Paris from November 16th to 18th. Four thousand people are expected at the meeting. On introducing the subject, the president of the French Weeks, Jerome Vignon, explained that the title chosen for this year represents a "commitment to be taken on, marked by life outburst rather than fear for catastrophe". But above all, this commitment is the response to an appeal recently made by the French bishops on the importance of undertaking "new lifestyles". The question – stated Vignon – "is highly felt by the public opinion", and is the reason "for a highly shared uncertainty in our European societies". From the Social Weeks – went on the president, – we "expect a message of hope", "an appeal to political powers" for them to assume "a long-term responsibility", and an appeal for "the criteria of economic effectiveness, environment preservation and social justice to be harmoniously matched".
