SIR EUROPE: AUSTRIAN BISHOPS, PLENARY ASSEMBLY IN THE HOLY LAND, SOLIDARITY FOR LOCAL CHRISTIANS

” “Through a "Letter from Galilee", made known in Jerusalem on November 9th, the Austrian bishops (meeting in plenary assembly in the Holy Land), synthesized the crucial points debated during the autumn plenary assembly, taking place at Tiberiade. Among other things, the agenda included reflections on the recent visit to Austria by the Pope, as well as solidarity for the Christians in the Holy Land. At the end of the plenary assembly, the bishops visited a few remarkable places of Christianity, such as Jerusalem and Bethlehem. "Three months after the visit by Pope Benedict XVI to Austria and his pilgrimage to Mariazell, we bishops made a pilgrimage to the Holy Land. Through several meetings, we had also the opportunity to express our solidarity to the Christians in the Holy Land, for their difficult situation", it is written in the document which also includes the accounts of pilgrims: "in the Holy Land, we also met lots of Christians from other countries, who showed their faith happily". During the visit, Cardinal Christophe Schönborn, archbishop of Vienna, went to the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre to pray, where he was welcomed by Msgr. Fouad Twal, archbishop assisting the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, and by the heads of the churches of Jerusalem.” “
