The recent news items happened in Italy (the murder of a woman for which a Rumanian nomad is under investigation; the visit to Rome of Rumania’s prime minister, Calin Popescu Tariceanu; the joint appeal to the EU by the governments of Italy and Romania, about the question of people’s mobility) "induced the leaders of political groups" in Strasbourg "to schedule a Parliament debate on the application of the directive on the free circulation of community citizens". A press note by the Parliament, which is meeting from today to Thursday, explains that MEPs are tackling the subject in the afternoon, and should pass a resolution. On the other hand, "a debate on the application of the provisions" of the Schengen Treaty is expected tomorrow. It will be followed by a Parliament comment. Carlos Coelho, Portuguese MEP, is the author of a report taking into consideration its extension to another nine States starting from next December 21st: Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovenia, Slovakian Republic and Hungary. Finally, "within the debates on the cases of violation of human rights, democracy rights and the rights of the legally constituted state", a debate "on the situation of the Christian communities in the Middle East" was announced for Thursday 15. It is going to be followed by a resolution.
