ITALIAN BISHOPS: THE NEW LITURGICAL LECTIONARY PRESENTED ON NOVEMBER 12TH (2)

” ” ” “The publication of the new Lectionary, goes on the Italian Bishops Conference, "will be finished by the end of 2008" and includes another six volumes: three of which are about the holiday cycle, one for the Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter; one for Ordinary Time, year I; one for Ordinary Time, year II. The last three volumes, instead, will concern readings for the celebration of feasts and the memories of the Saints, those for the ritual Masses (celebration of the Sacraments), for "ad diversa" and votive Masses (for instance: for peace and justice, for the Church, for thanksgiving…). The work made around the new Lectionary began at the general assembly of the Italian Bishops Conference in May 2002. On that occasion, the new translation of the Bible for liturgical use was approved in replacement of the one that had been used since 1974. In the following years, the National Liturgical Office devoted itself to compiling the Lectionary from the new translation. The liturgical book, once completed, was eventually sent on to the Ministry of the Holy See for the mandatory "recognitio" of the text. The process for confirmation of the translation ended on July 12th 2006 with an Order of Approval.” “
