BENEDICT XVI: THE PRESIDENT OF MONZAMBIQUE RECEIVED IN HEARING

Today, Benedict XVI received in hearing the President of the Republic of Mozambique, Armando Guebuza, in Rome for the XV anniversary of the Peace Agreement, in which he personally took part as head of the government delegation for the negotiations which had been taking place at the Community of Sant’Egidio for two years. After the conversation with the Pope – which lasted 30 minutes – the president met Cardinal Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone, who was accompanied by the secretary for relationships with States, Msgr. Dominique Mamberti. During the "cordial talks", it is written in a note made known by the Vatican press room, "they were happy about the good relationships existing between the Holy See and Mozambique, and of the convergence of ideas and purposes on the contribution which the Church may offer for the goodness of the whole Nation, hoping for a more and more concrete collaboration in the fields of health and education of new generations, which are the hope of the Nation". During the talks, they also talked about "the application of the Peace Agreement of Rome, whose XV anniversary was celebrated last October 4th. And they agreed on the need to achieve full national reconciliation". Finally, they proposed the recovery of the talks in view of an Agreement between the Holy See and the Republic of Mozambique.
