UNESCO: MGR. FOLLO (HOLY SEE), "FULL EDUCATION" FOR "A TRUE DEVELOPMENT OF THE PERSON"(2)

"For the protection and promotion of the cultures", stated mgr. Follo, it is important that "the religious fact be really included in the life of people and populations, as well as in social life". Religion must not be confined "to the private sphere"; according to the Vatican delegate, "to develop a culture of peace and fraternity, it is urgent to teach today’s men to acknowledge the religious fact as a reality that is not just personal but social as well, as a key element of the edification and maturation of people". Hence "the acknowledgement of religious freedom, which cannot be limited to believing, but which also includes the freedom to profess and publicly practise faith". In addition, a thought for our "increasingly urbanised world", where the megalopolises are also the scenes of "violence and barbarism". In expressing his satisfaction for Brazil’s proposal of a Conference on the development of the cities, mgr. Follo stated: "Places of culture, relations and education must be created in the urban centres". Finally, he recalled the common responsibility "for protecting the planet and promoting a culture of protection of the earth", considering also "the rural world and the country people".
