Full education of the person, acknowledgement of the religious fact within the public sphere, development of the cities and protection of the environment: these are the subjects addressed in the speech that mgr. Francesco Follo, permanent observer of the Holy See to Unesco, gave on October 22nd during the 34th session of the Unesco General Conference, which is in progress in Paris. In his speech, announced today by the Vatican newsroom, mgr. Follo warns that "the education of young and adults must be added to the priorities of the international community", since "this is one of the basic aspects of the promotion of people and populations, as well as the development of culture and peace". Special attention must be paid "to the African continent", where "the number of people, especially children and adolescents, who have no access to primary education, is still high". "Nothing will really change in our world warned mgr. Follo unless a quality education becomes accessible to everyone". According to the Vatican observer, "education must be a full one"; "not only intellectual, but human and moral as well", because "the real development of the person" can only be achieved "through the recognition of the full being and the dignity of everyone".
