SIR EUROPA: BARROSO (EU COMMISSION) HIGHLIGHTS THE "EUROPEAN SPIRIT OF THE POLISH PEOPLE"

"I pay tribute to the democratic process in Poland" and "I congratulate Donald Tusk on his success at the election". José Manuel Barroso responds to the outcome of the election that took place in Poland and highlights "the importance of the contribution of Poland to the European Union, and the European spirit of the Polish people". The head of the Executive adds: "I am sure there will be fruitful cooperation with the future government" of Warsaw. The election results were much awaited in Strasbourg as well (along with the results of the consultation in Slovenia and in nearby Switzerland), where the European Parliament will hold a plenary session from today to Thursday. And Martin Schulz, a Socialist group leader, comments from Strasbourg, where he has arrived to attend the assembly: "The Polish election is a victory for Poland and for Europe". According to Schulz, the voters sent a clear message, that the future of Poland is related to a close cooperation "with their European friends". "Poland – adds the German politician – can now resume its place in the EU where it will be welcomed everywhere".
