"The Udc rode the wave of populist and straightforward issues. There is a feeling of insecurity in the Swiss population that however is based on a perception that has been artfully created just by those who want to fan the flame. But perception is different from reality. And there are those who intentionally decide to exaggerate this perception to ride the wave of political choices". These are the words of Luigi Maffezzoli, Swiss journalist and president of the Catholic Action of Ticino, as he explained to SIR the overwhelming victory, yesterday, of the election by the Democratic Centrist Union (Udc) of the Minister of Justice Christoph Blocher. "In Switzerland says Maffezzoli -, 19% of the population are foreigners. This means that, regardless of the perception one has of foreigners, Switzerland is still perfectly aware that those who come from a foreign country are an asset, meaning that Switzerland could not live without foreigners, because its wealth does not come from the work of the Swiss population but from the resources that come from abroad, from Switzerland’s participation in foreign assets, and above all from the fact money comes to Switzerland from abroad, and Switzerland is perfectly aware of this. So this is a populist vote, the fruit of an election campaign that fanned the flame".
