Wanja Lundby-Wedin, president of the European Confederation of Trade Unions (Ces), comments the results of the three-party social summit which took place in Lisbon yesterday, during the EU summit. EU institutions, trade unions and representatives of the business world met and "successfully" exchanged ideas about "flexisecurity", to be used to revive the European economy, while protecting work and the welfare standards that have been achieved by the European Union. Ces said they were "satisfied with the three-party summit" but they also believe that the "form of flexisecurity as meant by the EU Commissions" is "imbalanced", because "it undermines the stability of work and shifts the balance of power to the employers’ benefit". John Monks, secretary of Ces (81 trade unions from 36 countries), explains: "Our challenge does not only consist in creating jobs, but in creating better jobs, giving workers more certainty".” “
