HOLY SEE: MGR. MIGLIORE TO THE UN, "ERADICATING POVERTY IS A MORAL DUTY" (3)

"Only a few countries – denounces the Holy See – have reached the right balance between a successful market economy and the maintenance, even the accurate adjustment, of a social protection system that guarantees a development built around the person". In "many cases", instead, "new forms of poverty have appeared, both in rich and poor countries". "The lack of means within the weaker sections of society – added Migliore – has lead to a loss of social relations and networks, which are essential to maintain personal integrity and dignity". This is the case, said the Holy See, "of old people left on their own, uninsured sick people, unemployed and disabled people, migrants who cannot find a job, men and women suffering from broken families, all those people who are in a state of uncertainty". "Education is at the roots of all social policies", warned Migliore, who thinks "an educated society eases the fight against corruption, which undermines the possibility of an economic growth for the poorer ones". In addition, education, according to the Holy See, "helps create legal facilities that leave wide space to the right of ownership and free enterprise, while protecting the full participation of everyone, with no exception, in the economic and social rights".
