"Dear and venerable brothers, I deeply confide in you and in your ministry, so that the Basilica of Saint Peter’s may be a veritable place of prayer, adoration and praise to the Lord. In this sacred place, where thousands of pilgrims and tourists come every day from all over the world, more than anywhere else there must be, next to Peter’s grave, a permanent community of prayer, which will guarantee continuity with tradition while interceding for the Pope’s intentions in the here and now of the Church and the world": this was said in the Vatican today by Pope Benedict XVI, as he received in audience, late in the morning, the Canons of the Vatican Chapter, led by the archpriest mgr. Angelo Comastri. "If prayer is essential for all Christians, for you, dear brothers added the Pope , it is, as it were, a ‘professional’ job. As I said during my recent trip to Austria, prayer serves the Lord, who deserves to be always praised and adored, and at the same time it is a testimony for men. And where God is praised and adored faithfully, the blessing will not be missing". (to be continued)
