SIR EUROPA: POLISH BISHOPS ABOUT ELECTION, "NO PARTY IS ENTITLED TO SPEAK ON BEHALF OF THE CHURCH"

” “"Before the parliamentary election, we would like to remind once again that the Church has no political representation and therefore it is not represented by any party. No party is entitled to speak on behalf of the Church or make reference to its support": this is the statement made by the Polish Bishops in the run-up to the election of 21st October, at the end of the 341st plenary session that ended in Warsaw yesterday. "However, we realise – write the bishops in un message which will be read in the Polish churches on Sunday 14th October, one week before early election at parliament, composed of 460 members at the Lower House (Sejm) and 100 senators – that the programs of some political groups and their commitments are closer to the Christian view of man and society, while the programs of other alignments are distant from the magisterium or even against it". In reminding the citizens of their duty to turn up at the election, the Bishops comment: "That natural obligation that befalls every human being is further strengthened by the bonds of faith"; therefore the believers are called "to take a more proactive part than the others in social life and therefore in the election as well", by voting "in accordance with their moral beliefs".
