"The Christian faith is first and foremost a meeting with Jesus, a person who gives life a new horizon". It was said by the Pope who devoted today’s catechesis in his first audience since he has finally come back from Castelgandolfo, in front of about 21 thousand people to Saint Cyril of Alexandria, that he defined as "an indefatigable and firm witness", especially a witness of "unity". "One is the Son, one is the Lord Jesus Christ, both before and after His incarnation": this, mentioned Benedict XVI, is one of Cyril’s key statements as he wrote: "It was not that one Son was the Logos born of God the Father, and another the one born of the Holy Virgin; but we believe that just He who is before time itself was born of a woman, also according to the flesh". "This statement, beyond its doctrinal meaning explained the Pontiff , shows that faith in Jesus, the Logos, born of the Father, is also deeply rooted in history, because, as Saint Cyril states, the same Jesus has come into time through His birth from Mary, the Theotòkos, and will be, as He promised, with us always". "Christ is always present, as He promised us, through to the end of time", said the Pope off the cuff at the end of his audience. And he added: "God is eternal, born of the Virgin, and stays with us every day. In this certainty we live, in this certainty we find the way to our faith".
