The relations between the two Churches goes on the Pope "must get stronger to respond to the needs of Europe and today’s world, in the religious and social spheres. A common testimony by the Christians is more and more urgent to respond to our common bent and to the emergencies of this day and age". Then, Benedict XVI thanked the Patriarch Daniel for the commitment of the Romanian Orthodox Church and "the proactive and positive involvement of its delegates" in the international mixed commission for theological dialogue. "I am sure writes the Pope of your will to continue and increase dialogue between the Orthodox and Catholic Churches, which is going through new negotiating stages as we are getting ready to face issues that are crucial to our relations". Then, the Pope made reference (although he did not expressly mentioned them) to the practical problems (often associated with real estate), which the two Churches are having trouble solving in Romania. "With patience, mutual love and hope he writes , we have to solve those issues which are no doubt less important but which, on a local plane, still hinder the fraternal communion between the Orthodox and Catholic Churches".
