BENEDICT XVI: TO THE UKRAINIAN LATIN RITE BISHOPS, "THE UNITY OF THE CATHOLICS SHOWS THE TRUE FACE OF THE CHURCH

"Two communities with distinct traditions, nevertheless fully Catholic, are coexisting: how could one believe it is not a providential opportunity? Both of them are meant to serve the only Kyrios and to announce its gospel". Those words were spoken by the Pope at Castel Gandolfo, this morning, while receiving in hearing the Latin rite bishops of Ukraine, paying ad limina visit. They are Msgr. Markiyan Trofym’yak (Lutsk), Msgr. Antal Majnek (Mukacheve), and Msgr. Bronislaw Bernacki (Odessa-Simpheropol). "The unity of Catholics, within rite diversity, and the effort to manifest it in any occasion, – went on Benedict XVI – show the true face of the Catholic Church. It is a very clear sign for the other Christians, too, and for the whole society". Moreover, taking into consideration the pastoral problems of the country, he added that "the long years of the Atheist and Communist domination left clear signs in the current generations. Those are also challenges waiting for you". The Pope pointed also out that "if communion within the Catholic communities consolidates, it will be easier to conduct a profitable dialogue between the Catholic Church and the other Churches and ecclesial Communities".
