” “"No country, on its own, can solve the problems of the environment; we must overcome self-interests through joint action. To do this, the International Community must adopt a coordinated, effective and quick international political strategy, which can actually respond to such a complex issue". It was said yesterday by mgr. Pietro Parolin, Under Secretary of the State Secretariat for Relations with the States, as he spoke at the 62nd session of the UN General Assembly on climate change. Mgr. Parolin recognised that science associates human activity with climate change, but such judgement "should not be exaggerated or played down in the name of politics, of partisan ideologies or self-interests. Instead it should be further investigated in order to take effective political decisions". Hence his distancing himself from the "inhuman ecology" expressed by some commentators, some of whom state that "we should exploit the world without caring about the consequences", while others consider "the earth as the only asset, and mankind a threat to be kept in check through different drastic means".
