The Pope then expressed his wishes to Nicaragua, "so hardly hit by the recent hurricane Felix", which caused deaths and destruction. And he asked that the country should receive, in addition to internal aids, "generous aids from the international community". "Nicaragua said the Pope , like many other countries, must face many economic, social and political problems", and this demands "responsibility on the part of the different political and business institutions", so that they will work in "a spirit of true solidarity". Then the Pope mentioned that a priority for the country is the fight against drugs, the increase in literacy, and the fight against poverty. And, as tools to achieve these goals, he pointed at the promotion of primary assets (education, health, food) as well as "transparency and honesty in public governance", because these values "make the authorities more credible in people’s eyes".
