Today, Benedict XVI appointed metropolitan archbishop of the archdiocese of "God’s Mother" in Moscow (Russian Federation) the Italian priest, father Paolo Pezzi, of the Priestly Fraternity of the missionaries of San Carlo Borromeo, who so far had been the rector of the Major Seminary "Maria Regina degli Apostoli" in Saint Petersburg. ” “Father Paolo Pezzi was born at Russi (Emilia Romagna, Italy) on August 8th 1960. He studied philosophy and theology in 1985-1990 at the Papal University of Saint Thomas. He was ordained priest on December 22nd 1990, in the Priestly Fraternity of the missionaries of San Carlo Borromeo. Then he obtained a postgraduate diploma in Pastoral Theology at the Lateran University. He has held several offices, including: editor-in-chief of the Catholic journal and Dean of the Central Region of Siberia, in the current diocese of the Transfiguration in Novosibirsk (1993-1998); vicar general of the Priestly Fraternity of the missionaries of San Carlo Borromeo (1998-2005); director of the Communion and Freedom Movement in Russia (from 1998 up to now); professor at the Major Seminary “Maria Regina degli Apostoli” in Saint Petersburg (2004); Rector of said Seminary since 2006.” “
