The 2008 European Prize for the prevention of drug addiction will be awarded next spring by the Pompidou Group at the Council of Europe (CoE) to three projects developed by groups of young people. The news was relayed by the CoE, which stated the projects will be short-listed within the 35 member states of the Group, considering the quality of the preventative work and the level of participation of the young. Special attention will be paid to the most innovative approaches to prevention, especially those using modern telecommunication media, such as videos, mobile phones and the Internet. The panel that will award the prizes, 5000 euros each, will be composed of six boys and girls from Russia, Lithuania, Malta, Norway, the Netherlands and Turkey, assisted by a team of experts in the prevention and treatment of drug addiction. The award will close on December 1st. For regulations, visit: http://www.coe.int/t/dg3/pompidou/Source/PrevPrize/2008PrevPrizeApplication_en.doc
