The enforcement of the Action Plan for the Disabled 2006 – 2015, launched by the Council of Europe, will be high on the agenda at a top-rank conference that will be held in Zagreb (Croatia) from 20th to 21st September. The event, promoted by the General Directorate for Social Cohesion of the CoE, will be attended by over 150 experts. According to the Assistant Secretary General of the CoE, Maud de Boer–Buquicchio, "the time has come to pass from words to action, to help the disabled integrate fully in European societies and guarantee they have equal opportunities". The European Conference on the Disabled is "a step forward" at this time in which many European countries are signing the UN Convention for the rights of disabled people. So the meeting will also be an opportunity to exchange ideas and opinions among the member states. The subjects addressed at the workshops include the forms of development of regional and international cooperation, as well as interaction between NGOs and state and local institutions. At the end of the conference, a declaration will be adopted which will contain some practical recommendations, also available at www.coe.int/soc-sp.
