BENEDICT XVI AT ANGELUS: "THE TRUE RELIGION" (2)

"Be as merciful as your Father is": in these words of Jesus’, stated the Pope, "we find very practical indications for our daily behaviour as believers". "In this day and age – went on Benedict XVI –, mankind needs God’s mercy to be vigorously proclaimed and witnessed. This pastoral urgency was prophetically sensed by the beloved John Paul II, who was a great apostle of God’s Mercy". It is not by chance that "to the Merciful Father he devoted his second encyclical, and all through his pontificate he made himself the missionary of God’s love to all the people". Then, "after the tragic events of September 11th 2001, which darkened the dawn of the third millennium – recalled the Holy Father –, he invited the Christians and the men of good will to believe that God’s Mercy is stronger than any evil, and that only in Christ’s Cross lies the salvation of the world". "May the Virgin, Merciful Mother, whom yesterday we contemplated, Sorrowful, at the foot of the Cross, get us the gift of always confiding in God’s love – concluded the Pope – and may She help us be as merciful as our Father who is in Heaven".
