"Fixing a few common principles for flexisecurity", in the attempt to reconcile more flexible national labour markets with more long-term work security for the young generations. This is the purpose for which the delegates of the EU institutions, the delegates of the member states, the trade unions and trade associations, and a large number of experts and academicians, will meet on Thursday 13th and Friday 14th September for the Lisbon Conference about "flexicurity". Discussions will focus on a basic document, i.e. the report published by Barroso’s team on 27th June, called "Towards common flexisecurity principles". Such principles are to be established by the European Council in December, in agreement with the Lisbon Strategy, the latest changes in the economic systems and the labour market, and the development of new technology and new professional skills. The trade unions ask the parties to consider strengthening the welfare and social security systems in the member states. The conference will be opened by the Labour Commissioner, Vladimír pidla, and by the Portuguese Minister of Labour and Social Solidarity, Vieira da Silva.
