SIBIU–EEA3: FINAL MESSAGE, "THERE’S NO ALTERNATIVE TO DIALOGUE NOWADAYS"” “” “

” “Pledging to continue the walk towards visible unity, because it is a prerequisite for giving a "credible" testimony to Europe and the world. "There’s no alternative to dialogue nowadays: it’s not a compromise, but a dialogue of life, in which we can tell the truth in love". This was endorsed in Sibiu by the Christian Churches of Europe (Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant) at the end of the Third European Ecumenical Assembly in a final message, which also contains 9 "recommendations" as a common starting point for future action. "Our testimony for hope and unity for Europe and the world – reads the message – will only be credible if we continue our walk towards visible unity". "In Sibiu, we have felt again the painful wound of the division between our Churches". "However, our confidence in the transforming power of the light of Christ is stronger than the darkness of resignation, fatalism, fear and indifference". In the first three recommendations, the delegates speak to the Churches, telling them to renew the mission of "proclaiming Christ as the Light and the Saviour of the World", to "continue the debate on the mutual recognition of Baptism", and to engage in "activities that unite us", such as "praying for each other and for unity, ecumenical pilgrimages, theological training and joint study".
