SIBIU-EEA3: "WE KEEP DREAMING OF SISTERLY CHURCHES AND BROTHERLY PEOPLES"” “” “

The Third European Ecumenical Assembly ended last Saturday in Sibiu, with the final draft of the final message (for the full text: www.eea3.org) and the prayer in the square. "This message is a sign of the ecumenical times", commented Jean-Arnold de Clermont, president of the Conference of European Churches (Kek). "A strong will – he added – to extend dialogue and an exhortation to think of new means are visible. We might even say that the common testimony challenges the theological debate to move on". While mgr. Vincenzo Paglia, co-chairman of the assembly’s organising committee, has already launched the fourth event, "maybe targeted to Africa". "This assembly – stated mgr. Paglia – has indissolubly entwined being European and universal Christians". "We cannot delay the rediscovery of Europe’s responsibility for the world. We keep dreaming of sisterly Churches and brotherly peoples. Divided, we become accomplices to conflict". Finally, the metropolitan bishop Gennadios of Sassima, also a co-chairman, insisted that, even if a painful separation persists, Sibiu has been a "platform to reunite the different Churches in their role, at the beginning of the millennium".
