BENEDICT XVI IN AUSTRIA: MASS IN VIENNA; "WE CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT SUNDAY"

” “"For those Christians, the Sunday celebration of the Eucharist was not a precept, but an inner necessity". Benedict XVI, in yesterday morning’s Mass in the Cathedral of Saint Stephen in Vienna, mentioned the martyrs of Abitene, known for their statement "Sine dominico non possumus". "Without Him who supports our life with His love – highlighted the Pope –, life would be empty. To leave aside or betray this centre would take out of life its very foundation, its inner dignity and its beauty". But "is this attitude of those Christians relevant to today’s Christians as well? Yes, it is relevant to us as well, as we need a relationship to support us, to give direction and substance to our life. We too need to have contact with the Resurrected, who supports us well beyond death. We need this relationship that brings us back together, give us a space of freedom, makes us look beyond the activism of daily life, towards the creating love of God, from whom we come and to whom we walk. Without the Lord and the day that belongs to Him – he added –, there is no such thing as an accomplished life". (continued) ” “
