SIBIU-EEA3: ECUMENICAL TWINSHIPS BETWEEN CHRISTIAN PARISHES IN EUROPE, A PROPOSAL FROM THE DELEGATION OF MARCHE

Today, in Sibiu, the delegates of the Third European Ecumenical Assembly were handed out a motion from the Christian Catholic Delegation of the region Marche, proposing, "as a way out", the idea to promote ecumenical twinships between Christian parishes and monasteries of all the Christian confessions in Europe. This means – reads the motion – establishing, "in a non-occasional way, trails of brotherhood” to "boost bonds of acquaintance, prayer, dialogue and mutual help”. The proposal is the fruit of a decade-old experience in twinships that the region Marche has always carried out in its ecumenical life. These initiatives produce an "ecumenical movement that can give rise to a new awareness, open new prospects, help the different confessions that live in the same areas reconcile their memories". The delegation asks the Churches of Europe to set up a centre for promoting and coordinating these twinship projects.
