In the measures against drugs use, the EU Parliament seeks a "fundamental partnership with the media", especially for the "dissemination of scientific information on the risks that drugs use poses on mental and physical health". As well as the usual mass media, a special role is given to the Internet: electronic media can actually be "preferential partners in the fight against drugs, because of their influence on the young generations". In the report adopted in Strasbourg today, the Assembly emphasises "the importance of the establishment of the Social Forum on Drugs as the first step towards a more effective and factual involvement of European associations in the EU’s dynamics on the policies for prevention of and fight against drugs use". Such Forum, which must be given a clear brief and which must cooperate with the European Observatory on Drugs and Drug-Addictions (Oedt), "should represent a wide range of well-balanced opinions" and act as a venue for discussions with the associations that are in the forefront of the fight against drugs, both in terms of prevention and rehabilitation.
