On the invitation of card. Péter Erdõ, archbishop of Esztergom-Budapest (Hungary) and president of the Council of European Bishops Conferences (Ccee), from tomorrow until April 20th, Esztergom will host the meeting of Crme, the Ccee-Kek Committee (Conference of European Churches) for Relations with Muslims in Europe. In Esztergom, the members of Crme will also meet Muslims from different European countries to prepare together a European Christian-Muslim Conference due in Malines/Brussels (20-23 October 2008) about "Being European citizens and believers. Christians and Muslims as proactive partners in European societies". The agenda of the Esztergom meeting includes a discussion of two documents that are currently being drawn up: one about violence related to religious matters; one on the training of priests and pastoral workers and the consequences of the Muslim presence on the life of the Church in Europe. In addition, the conference will address the Open letter from 138 Muslim religious leaders to the leaders of the Christian Churches and confessions (13 October 2007), and the Charter of Muslims in Europe, signed on January 10th by 400 Muslim organisations of the continent. Established in 1986 by Kek and Ccce, the Crme is in charge of informing and supporting the Churches in Europe in their relations with Islam and increasing relations with Muslims.
