“Testifying God’s primacy over everything and disseminating His kingdom in every sphere of society”. This is the invitation made by the Pope who in yesterday’s Regina Coeli recalled the World Day of Prayer for Callings, on which "in every continent, the church communities in mutual agreement invoke from the Lord many holy callings to priesthood, to consecrated and missionary life and to Christian marriage”. This year, the World Day of Prayer for Callings stands in the perspective of the "Pauline Year", which will begin on June 28th to celebrate the second millennium of the birth of the apostle Paul, the “missionary par excellence”, in whose experience “calling and mission are inseparable”. According to Benedict XVI, the apostle of people "is a model for every Christian, especially for missionaries ‘ad vitam’, that is, those men and those women who totally devote themselves to announcing Christ to those who have not met Him yet: a calling, this one, that is still perfectly relevant”. This "missionary service" is carried out first of all by the priests, said the Pope, expressing his "admiration" for "these brothers of ours who spend themselves unconditionally in the pastoral ministry, sometimes sealing their faithfulness to Christ with the sacrifice of their life, as it happened yesterday again for the two priests killed in Guinea and in Kenya”.
