” ” The European Parliament, too, as the Commission has recently done, is paving the way for the adhesion of Croatia. The Assembly closed its plenary session in Brussels by approving the report by MEP Hannes Swoboda, who pointed out the reforms implemented until now with favour. However, at the same time, she asked for further steps forward in relation to the public administration, the effectiveness of justice and the fight against corruption. Moreover, today the auditorium (reports by Guy Bono and Vasco Graca-Moura) dealt with a future strategy in the field of culture. MEPs believe that modernity and competitiveness of Europe depend on both economic innovation and culture, as well as creativity. Furthermore, they stated that the cultural heritage of Europe – including "the marriage of its most important backgrounds, such as Greek, Latin and Judaic/Christian antiquities, which put Europe in the front line in all continents, from the historical point of view" turned out to be "an incomparable driving force behind innovation, development and progress". Today, too, such heritage "is continuing to be a real and essential milestone in relation to humanism, spiritual wealth and animation, democracy, tolerance and civilization". Therefore, according to that, 2011 might be proclaimed the "European year of Latin and Greek classics".
