THE MIDDLE EAST: COE, MEETING IN BEIRUT ABOUT MIGRATIONS AND THE PEACE PROCESS

A world ecumenical conference devoted to the consequences of migrations for churches is going to take place in Beirut on 15th and 16th April, promoted by the Ecumenical Council of Churches and the Global Ecumenical Network on Migration (GEM). During the works, according to what the Ecumenical Council of Churches reported, a delegation of young Christians from the Middle East will explain the reasons encouraging many people their age to emigrate, looking for a better future. Migration scholars and experts will thus try to illustrate the causes and the consequences of migrations on the level of multiculturalism and diversity, in particular, in relation to the peace process in the Middle East. The meeting will be followed by another two days of reflection by GEM, which will try to debate the answers of Churches to the problems created by migrations, and by the necessity to find out means for living together in diversified societies. On 17th and 18th April, a delegation of the Ecumenical Council of Churches, led by its secretary general, Samuel Kobia, is going to the United Arab Emirates, where it is going to meet the representatives of the several churches which are present in the Gulf. From 19th to 22nd, the delegation is moving to Syria to take part in the celebrations for the Orthodox Easter. The commitment of local churches to support Iraqi refugees will also be illustrated.
