JOHN PAUL II: CARD. DSIWISZ AND CARD. RUINI,"HE HAS NEVER DESERTED US"

John Paul II died three years ago: since then, "he has never deserted us". It was said last night by card. Stanislao Dziwisz, archbishop of Cracow, to the man whose special secretary he used to be, at the end of the vigil of prayer on the grave in the Vatican grottos. The meeting of prayer had been promoted by the youth pastoral of the Italian Bishops Conference and by the diocese of Rome. Speaking to the young, the cardinal recalled the crowd that was in Saint Peter’s Square that night: "we have come today as we did three years ago, to be with him, to pray, to sing, to thank him. You are the morning sentinels – he went on –, the youth that announces the day, a new season, full of sunshine. You are the generation of John Paul II and you are in charge of the new evangelisation". And to Pope Wojtyla: "your service for the Church continues, even if in a different way. We are thinking of your lesson, the example of your life, which keeps speaking to our consciences. Holy Father, we all wish – he went on – to take on your heritage to continue your plan for the new evangelisation. We wish to proclaim the holiness of life and the holiness of the family united in marriage. In the name of Jesus, we are on the side of the poor, the humble, those who have nothing, those who are persecuted because of their justice or religion". (continued) ” ” ” “
