Pope Benedict XVI is "satisfied" with the Muslim-Catholic colloquium held in Rome from 13 to 17 December. This morning, at the end of his general audience, he expressed a "great encouragement" to those who attended the 11th Colloquium organised by the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue and by the World Islamic Call Society (WICS) on the theme: "The Responsibility of Religious Leaders, especially in Times of Crisis." The meeting was attended by 12 Catholic representatives led by Cardinal Jean-Louis, president of Pontifical Council itself, and 12 Muslim delegates led by Mohamed Ahmed Sherif, Secretary General of WICS. This morning, the participants released a communiqué outlining four points. The first one states that "the first and most important responsibility of religious leaders is religious by nature. Following their respective religious traditions, religious leaders are responsible for faithfully transmitting religious traditions through their teaching, their actions and their example, thus serving their community for God’s glory."
