YOUTH: TODAY, ROMANIA WILL GIVE THE ICON OF THE VIRGIN TO THE AUSTRALIAN UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

"The icon of the Virgin Sedes Sapientiae has been, for the university students of Romania, a sign that speaks of the presence and role of the Virgin in the history of our growth, for the Redemption brought by Christ, a sign of the presence of the Church as a proactive factor in the process of intellectual and moral education of the human being". With these words, the archbishop of Bucharest, mgr. Ioan Robu describes the one-year pilgrimage of the icon of the Virgin Sedes Sapientiae in the universities of Romania. Tonight, Romania will give the icon to the delegation of Australian university students. "If I may – stated archbishop Robu to SIR –, I would like to advise the Australian university students to put the icon in a place of honour in their universities and meditate on this occasion on two things that are present in their lives: the presence of the Virgin and the presence of the Church". "And both – he added – speak of the wisdom of faith, which, along with the wisdom of reason, help man contemplate the splendour of the truth, as also told us by John Paul II’s encyclical, Veritas Splendor". Tonight, the delegation of Rumanian university students will give the icon of the Virgin Sedes Sapientiae to the Australian delegation during the meeting of the university students with Benedict XVI in Saint Peter’s.
