BENEDICT XVI: EUROPEAN CHRISTIAN ROOTS TO NUTURE "THE HOPE OF MILLIONS OF CITIZENS"

"We live in the so-called ‘plural’ world characterized by fast communication, people mobility and economical, political and cultural inter-independence," observed Benedict XVI. "In this time, sometimes dramatic, many Europeans seem to ignore the Christian roots of Europe, but they are lively and should trace the path and nurture the hope of millions of citizens who are sharing the same values." Then the Pontiff’s encouraged "those who are working to build a welcoming Europe, united and more and more faithful to its roots," and called on the faithful "to preserve with jealousy the cultural and spiritual heritage that is part of their history, and to increase their commitment in finding new ways to face the post-modern era big challenges." Among them, concluded the Pope, "the defence of human life at every stage of existence, the protection of all the rights of people and of family, the construction of a fair and just world, the safeguard of the creation, inter-religious and intercultural dialogue." ” ” ” “
