According to the Commission, which is entrusted with the communication campaign for 2009, the goal of the special year will be "promoting creative and innovative approaches in various fields of human activity, and to pay a contribution to provide the European Union with the necessary instruments to face the coming world challenges to a global extent". The European year of Innovation and Creativity – EYIC – aims also at "increasing awareness of the importance of creativity as key skill for personal, social and economic development". "As happened in previous European years added Commissioner Figel’ -, promotional campaigns, events and initiatives on European, national, regional and local level will be launched". The launch of the media campaign is accompanied with the opening of the website http://www.create2009.europa.eu/, "where one can find news, events and activities, as well as reports on the results of the activities" of the Year.
