"The Catholic Church wants to contribute to the new European project. In this, project the Catholic schools play an important role", since "they offer an integral education of the person, for the common good of society, with a firm hope in mankind". This was written in the final release of the Congress of European Catholic Schools that ended in Rome today. "The Catholic school reads the document is called to be aware of the opportunities provided by a healthy laicism which can arise in Europe" and which "provides all members of society with a public arena in which to testify one’s faith in God and in the shared values". Because of this, the participants in the congress (Bishops of Ccee in charge of the school pastoral and experts from Ceec) say they believe that one of the priorities is " training teachers in understanding the relationship" between the "quality of education offered by the Catholic schools and the inspiration of the faith that supports it": hence the need to "develop a teachers’ spirituality". Catholic education must "be clearly recognised as part of the ‘knowledge society’", and the "Catholic view of knowledge and faith ends the document promotes the unity of the truth when confronted by its fragmentation, which is the result of extreme specialisation and positivism".” “
