The General Synod of the "Church of England", which ended last week, decided that from now on the bishops will be appointed by the Church, and the Prime Minister’s approval will no longer be needed. Until now, it was the English Prime Minister who chose the bishop between two names, which were submitted by the "Crown Nominations Commission", the Church body in charge of selecting bishops. This is a major change in this Church which was founded by Henry VIII in the distant 1600 to make England independent of Rome and whose existence has always been closely related to the English state. Some of the bishops are for a "disestablished" Church, that is, independent from the State, because they think in this way a stronger spiritual dimension will be recovered. Others attach importance to the official dimension, which makes the "Church of England" the state religion of this country and gives it a special place compared to the other religions.” ” ” “
