"Somebody thinks that China or Sudan are behind the Chad crisis went on Tessari -, but nobody is able to interpret the situation clearly. It is true that Deby re-established relationships with China a couple of years ago, but it is still early to be able to understand well what’s behind". As for the current humanitarian situation, with 30,000 people escaped from the capital, and now taking refuge in Cameroon, and another 2,500 in Nigeria (UNHCR and Red Cross source), Tessari has the impression that "for the moment, it is not so serious, by it might change from one moment to the next, even within 24 hours". In Kousseri, the Cameroon city where most of the refugees arrived, the local Caritas is hosting 2,000 people in parishes. "We sent money for buying food confirmed Tessari -, and Caritas is trying to cope with the situation as best as it can. It is also true that lots of men went back to the capital leaving women and children in Kousseri, to try and recover their properties, which run the risk of being sacked". In Chad, camps are already hosting hundreds of thousands of internal refugees and refugees from other countries: 180,000 Chadians in Eastern Chad, 240,000 Sudanese, and 52,400 refugees from the Central Africa Republic (UNHCR and OCHA source).
