HEALTH: EU-WIDE STRATEGY FOR CANCER PREVENTION AND RESEARCH

"Cancer is a disease that deeply affects all cancer patients and their families and involves significant costs" for the EU member states "for medical and social prevention". Based on such perspective, the current presidency of the EU Council, which is in Slovenia’s hands, promoted an international conference due to take place in Brdo on 7th and 8th February. The subject of the conference will be "How to reduce the weight of cancer?" Speakers will include delegates from the member states, the EU Commission and the EU Parliament, as well as "research workers, delegates of associations and NGOs". According to Ljubljana’s Government, the conference will be "an opportunity to exchange information, news and good practices", placing "emphasis on the need for a more effective common action" across the EU to "reduce the burden" of such disease, "which is the second greatest cause of death in the developed countries" and shares many factors and problems with cardiovascular diseases. Items on the agenda include prevention, treatment of the disease and patients, palliative treatments, research.
