The mobilisation of society about these issues is actually huge, "but it does not correspond to a real commitment and a specific will on the part of the governments", said Marina Ponti, new director for Europe of the UN Millennium Campaign. To have more "effective" aids, she added to SIR, "we will keep supporting through the media the campaign on the quality of resources and will fight corruption as well. We will mobilise society in Africa and Asia so that they will feel responsible for changing the mentality of those who rule them. Corruption will be defeated if the citizens ask for transparency by checking their accounts". Basically the European campaign will begin in April-May 2008 with brochures, sketches and videos for the media and the young. "It is true that public opinion is sceptical about the use of the resources admitted Ponti , so many go for direct aids. But we want to introduce the political argument to eradicate commercial policies and missing or ineffective cooperation to development. We want Parliaments to give priority to the fight against poverty". The Millennium Objectives include: fighting hunger in the world, gender inequality, child and mother death rates, Hiv/Aids; improving education and health for everyone, environmental sustainability.
